Gunning For a Good Job
Fairview Park, OH
Getting shot during a job-related errand apparently wasn’t serious enough to keep a dutiful employee from driving back to his place of work.
At 4:30 p.m. Dec. 14, an 18-year-old North Olmsted man returned from running the errand for his manager at a Lorain Road business. The employee was covered in blood.
When asked what happened, the employee told his co-workers “I was shot,” according to a Fairview Park Police Department report.
Police found the young man sitting in a chair and in obvious pain from a bullet wound to his upper-right arm.
Paramedics arrived to take him to Fairview Hospital, where he would be treated. However, he was a bit reluctant to tell officers what actually happened, police said.
After repeated questioning, he told them that, while running the errand, he saw some friends walking near West 220th Street and Clifford Drive. He pulled the car over and, while talking to them, Kevin Sokolowski, 18, of Fairview Park, pulled out a gun to show it off, the police report said. The gun went off.
Police had Sokolowski’s description, and a patrolman spotted him walking along West 210th Street. When the patrolman pulled up, Sokolowski immediately began crying and said he didn’t mean to do it.
Police charged him with assault, a second-degree felony punishable by 2-8 years in prison. He was released on bond.
Police said the 9mm semi-automatic handgun came from a 40-year-old Parma man, who provided it to a juvenile so the youngster and the Parma man’s brother could go shooting at a range.
Instead, the juvenile carried the gun around, and later let Sokolowski carry it. Charges may also be filed against the Parma man and the juvenile, police said.

See what happens when you give guns to people and don’t give them any instruction on how to use them safely? My Dad always told me not to point a gun at anyone I don’t intend to shoot. He also made sure I knew how to safely handle a loaded firearm. This kid obviously didn’t get any of that training, or wasn’t listening when he did.

But, how about the kid that got shot! Wow, in pain and still responsible enough to go back to work to check in with his boss to see if it’s alright for him to go to the hospital. Plus, he didn’t want to tell his boss how it happened cause he knew he was screwin’ off while he was on the clock. And, beyond that, devoted enough that he didn’t want to give up his bud.
All in all, a stand up guy. I’m sure Wal-Mart will miss these guys.
