Watered Down Gas
Hobart, IN
HOBART, Ind. - Jeffrey Crane got something unexpected when he stopped to gas up his pickup truck — a tank full of water. Crane, who filled up at a Marathon Station in Hobart on Saturday, had his pickup towed to a repair shop when it failed to start Monday. He was surprised to discover what the problem was. “I have a tank full of water,” Crane said.
Ahmad Mochtar, owner of the Marathon station, said a cracked seal on a mechanical probe allowed ground water to seep into the northwest Indiana station’s gasoline supply late Saturday.
“It was an accident. It was beyond our control,” Mochtar said.

So like this is the only guy that got water instead of gas or what?
I’d have to strangle Ahmad if that happened to my ride.

“Beyond your control”? Maybe. Not your responsibility? Guess again, Ahmad! I hope your insurance is paid up, because if not you’re gonna pay for this guy’s repairs out of pocket.

Not to mention reimbursing for the tank full of water at $2.60 or so a gallon…

Actually, Mike, he’s only charging $2.34. I’m sure the complaints are going to keeep going

I’ve worked at a gas station before. There is a meter in the back of every store that inventories the fuel level AND also reports the level of water in the tank. So either Mr. Mochtar is an incompetent businessman who reorders by “instinct” (and doesn’t know that water won’t burn) or he was trying the sneaky because the outlet is up the wall a bit so sludge and a normal amount of seepage will not be pulled up by the pumps.

Most tanks that would let water in would also purge the gas accordingly, which would be some violation with federal regulations therefore he more than likely will be shut down–I would assume that Ahmad will be retiring from the fuel business sooner than expected, and also will be paying a lot of others vehicle repair bills.
I worked at a gas station and would have to test the tanks twice daily….
I would put an orange creamy stuff on the stick about 4 inches up, and then I would lower the 12 foot stick into the tank and test the fuel and water levels–always seemed to be at least an inch of water on the bottom of the tank and the level of water would be indicated by where the goo would turn pink, because water and oil/fuel don’t mix. Needless to say, the government closed down the fueling there and they had to remove the tanks from the ground, but they still sell consumer products.
