Dropping A Bomb
Glassboro, NJ
2:00 p.m. - Westby Hall - A female using the restrooms on the first floor stated that she found in her stall a 2″ x 2″ piece of paper with the word “BOMB” written on it.
The woman, who had probably been dropping some bombs of her own at the time, decided that this Post-It note was a threat to the security of the campus and phoned Public Safety.
After an extensive check of the building, Public Safety deemed the bomb threat “uncredible” and allowed all in Westby Hall to resume their activities.

It’s pretty damn sad that we’re all so paranoid these days that writing a word on a piece of paper can completely disrupt our daily business.

What would’ve happened if someone had written “Fire” or “Gun”?

Yeah, it is pretty sad, but really? It’s a sign of the times and really, do we want to discourage people from bringing these things to the attention of the police. Small chance it’s anything, but the price of it being something could be high for someone.

You have to take bathroom writting with a grain of salt. Consider “for a good time call Godiva at 555-1212. She’s da BOMB” Oops. Someone wrote the word bomb. Time to call the authorities!
I wonder if the woman chanced to finish her business first or stopped abruptly to call campus police. What some poeple won’t do to get out of a test.

You raise a good point, Iron Dude. Wonder if this was simply an effort to scare the crap outta folks and keep the line’s moving.

Uh… is the premise is that a woman labeled her bomb and the label fell off in a stall in the women’s restroom? Do people label bombs with a Post-It for safety? Is there a woman walking around with an unlabeled bomb?
Of course, I live in Boston where last month people freaked out that french fries flipping you the ‘bird’ made out of colored blinking lights were bombs.

Enquiring minds Wonk.
Still, I’m sorry about ya’lls experience up there in Boston. I understand the need for public security, but that incident was epic in it’s stupidity. I don’t get the sense that terrorists of the sort we’re dealing with have much of a sense of humor…which is, perhaps, thier biggest problem. There’s probably a good business reason why the ‘Laugh Factory’ hasn’t opened a night club in Kabul.

She should have just put the post it note in the john and dropped bombs on it for target practice.

All I know is this… If (and this is a VERY big if) I was going to plant a bomb somewhere, I certainly would not advertise the fact. Anywhere. To anyone. Not even a friend who might wander into the line of fire. I have NEVER heard of a case where a bomb threat was made and a bomb was actually found. Calling in bomb threats is an ego thing for people with low self-esteem (look at all the mayhem I caused without hurting anyone…). People who wish to destroy (for whatever reason) know that calling in to report the bomb is counter-productive.

Just today I had a call on the gas line emergency line at work; the caller stated that “there’s a bad gas odor in my bathroom”, I felt like saying “sounds like a PERSONAL problem to me”, but instead dispatched a crew to check it out. Sewer smell, not natural gas.

ritch, a very good point. and everybody would panic also if the note would have said “kegger” with-out leaving an address.
