What does climbing a rope sound like?

Possibly like the sound if six or eight hands slipping — possibly, they were actually escaping her attic, where she was “saving them for later”? Possibly, she heard their terrified screams when the rope broke — this way the police would believe her story? If the latter were the case, is it possible that the police — after considering her story — would wonder how the rope had been attached to begin with?
