They probably just sat beside the kid to keep him in line and another over-protective parent is blowing things all out of proportion! Crap like this has been going on in school buses for a long time and, in more cases than not, it’s exaggerated beyond belief.

Hey we’ve all been on school buses and seen what went on. The minute these kids enter the bus they think they have a license to act up. The bus driver is behind the wheel what else can he do but call out the militia. Parents have to realize that their kids aren’t always the angels they think they are.

True, Robocop. But if i found out that a bus driver had done such a thing to a child of mine, I would a) whallop the child for acting up on the bus. and b) have a chat with the bus driver, his (or her) supervisor, my attorney, and the superintendant of schools about the legal ramifications of the way it was handled. It sounds from the report like corporal punishment, which has been illegal in the schools for twenty years or more. Unfortunately parents think that once their kid leaves the house to go to school, discipline is no longer their problem. The schools are for educating our offspring, and instilling discipline is our job.

My girlfriend (a mother of three) drove a school bus in New York, for nineteen years, and she used a sort of reverse psychology with the kids — she let them “be kids” while riding on her bus, and in turn they agreed to clean up any messes, like wadded balls of paper, spit-balls, chocolate smears, etc. etc. Everyone got along just fine.
