The Granite Pelican
Clovis, NM
About 11 a.m. Oct. 14 an officer responded to the 2000 block of Fairway Terrace to take a report of larceny. A woman said a 150-pound granite statue of a pelican had been taken from the front yard of the home. The statue was worth approximately $3,000, she said. The case is under investigation.

There are 2 people in Clovis, NM who WANT a granite pelican?! Maybe it was removed by the self-appointed taste police.

Maybe someone needed it to hold the hood of their junker down? Or maybe their old Falcon was beginning to bump into things, so they needed a totem with better eyesight? Or, being the artsy type, they needed the perfect statue on which to display their “If it smells like fish, eat it” bumper sticker? Or maybe it was abducted by passing aliens on their way to freedom and prosperity en el Estado Unidos? The possibilities are… well, they just are.

Sheesh, who would pay $3,000 for something to just set out in your front yard. If I had $3,000 lying around, I could think of alot more productive things to do with it than to buy a granite pelican and put it in the middle of a desert.

Like they say, Star, a fool and his money are soon parted. What I’ve always wanted to know is how they got together in the first place.
