High Priced Hot Dogs
Palm Beach, FL
A man entered a convenience store in the 1500 block of Northwest Avenue L in Belle Glade with a former employee. While the former employee chatted with the clerk, the man walked to a cooler and took a package of 40 hot dogs. The man stopped at the register to pay for a soda and gas, but did not pay for the hot dogs, valued at $55.60. A surveillance video was obtained from the store, but was not viewed because the store’s VCR was not working.

Ok, how do they know that this guy stole the hot dogs? And, a 40 pack of hot dogs costs over $50!? Puhleeeze. Even at “city” prices, you can’t spend more than $15-20 on 40 hot dogs — and that’s in the 8-packs. 40-packs are sold as such because less packaging is supposed to provide the lower pricing — the Holy Grail for stores such as COSTCO and Sam’s Club. Sounds like someone is spreading the mustard a bit thick here. Perhaps the $50 was really for the special “hot dog warming” method the former employee employed, and this was the best way to explain the till being short.

Besides, Sly, if I walk up to the counter with three items in my hand, and the clerk, seeing all three items, charges me for two of them, and I pay and leave, where the he!! does he get off calling the law and reporting me as a thief?! And like you said $55.60 for a pack of 40 hot dogs??? They must have been made from the finest veal hand fed on the sweetest of sheep’s milk. Seems highly unlikely for a convenience store, even in Palm Beach. Unless these are the dogs thar sit on the rollers all day waiting for some hungry idiot to buy them, and the $55.60 number was arrived at by multiplying the cost of a ready to serve dog by 40 and subtracting the price and relative profit margin on the buns from the result. That’s called padding the bill, and is “not cricket” so to speak, but is typical of convenience store management (and a good part of the reason I avoid convenience stores).

I think theres alot more missing from this story. Im thinking theres a grudge with the former employee.

Those Hot dogs must be laced with gold in order cost $55.60 come on almost $ 56 bucks for hot dogs! I can see if he stole some really good cuts of steak like porterhouse or some other expensive cuts of meat but hot dogs , I think this clerk is full of bologna!!!
